How to write and publish a post on Wordpress

When I first started blogging, I spent hours trying to figure out the “dashboard” or the main control panel in wordpress.

I felt really stupid and I frustrated. I tried to get my answers in the wordpress support forums but even that turned out to be confusing.

Most people posting in there did not seem to be beginners.
My questions seemed too basic to be listed.

I found most of my answers by googling my questions six ways from Sunday and reading other peoples blogs.

I am a kinesthetic and tactual learner, so learning videos on the internet work well for me.
I can follow at my own pace and try it myself and slow it down, replay it and this is all good.

I encourage my website clients to add a blog to their website and this involves
the need for some directions.

This is my first video for the web. “How to log in and write and publish a post on your blog”.

Find it here http://askmepc-webdesign.com.

How to create and publish on wordpress

This is all it takes. You would just use the advanced menu and copy and paste this into that box.

This will take out any odd code that usually will mess up your post.

Blogging - Instantly Double Website Traffic, Why Every Business Should Have A Blog

There are many reasons you should have a blog. I am going to focus on it from a business and promotion angle. When I create a website for someone, they are paying me to design and set it up and then I get an hourly fee to update it and do the usual things a webmaster does.

Many websites are simply used like an office address. A place to find the business and find the person, their contact information or their speaking and event calendar. This is critical for anyone who is promoting themselves or their product. You need to at least have this. When you add a blog, you actually end up with two websites for the price of one.

You also can run a blog yourself apart from your webmaster! This is fun, easy and critical in keeping your website and name fresh and alive on the internet.

How does it do that?

Search engines love fresh content. Most websites tend to be static. After the initial launch they die in the rankings and the information you have becomes stale and lands on the bottom of the heap when someone does a search. Example- if you wrote an article on How to Create an Ebook and had it on your website, it would get indexed in the search engines and might pull up if the keywords were good and you had a good helpful article. If you wanted to keep getting fresh traffic and good rankings, every time you wrote a blog post with anything to do with your topic you would add a link back to that article, and eventually this grows over time,

and when blogging, the feeds are picking up your topics and highlighting and distributing them and then there are things happening with your posts that require no effort on your part, other then to keep posting fresh content on your blog.

You can either get a free blog at wordpress or blogger a Google company, or if you already have a site you can install or have your webmaster install one of the themes you choose from wordpress themes.

Then you will get a login and password.

Be sure to login and take a look around, see how it works and how to post.

All the blogger sites have excellent forums and help for beginners.

Do not add a blog to your site if you are not willing to consistently some invest time and effort.

A blog with year old posts or months that have passed will work against the fresh imagine you want to convey.

I tell people to try to post at least once a month. I think that is doable for anyone.

Weekly is better and daily is great if you enjoy it.

Most people and companies I know do not post daily.

That is fine as long as you make sure to keep it up at least once a month.

Every time you create a new post/article/entry it is picked up by various search engines and feeds.

Over time this will help propagate your site and blog.

Feeling overwhelmed by the idea of trying to write something on a regular basis? Ask people you know to write a post for you and publish it This is a great way to network and people feel privileged to have their article on your blog. You also can get articles from the many article websites online, like e-zine, that allow you to reprint and publish articles.

Once you add your blog, add a Google alert ( you can sign up for these and Google will email you when other sites are adding your site or giving attention to your website or blog) to see what feeds and other sites are noticing your blog, and also be sure to start checking your traffic stats, so you can see the increase in visitors to your blog and website.

Once I added a blog to my ebook website , I saw my traffic go up by 400-600 visits a day. Now that is good value for just spending a little time and effort maintaining a blog site.

Have fun choosing your theme and I look forward to finding your point of view and whatever you have to offer the world on your website and blog! For more reasons to add a blog and increase traffic on your website visit askmepc-webdesign.com

Dan Fogelberg Dies at age 56., A time for personal reflection

Dan Fogelberg, August 13, 1951 - December 16, 2007
The music will live on.

dan fogelberg dies

When I was in High School, people would ask me, Who is your favorite band, or group?
I always said, “Dan Fogelberg”.
This never failed to elicit the response, “Who is that” ?
I had discovered his album “Home Free” which remains my favorite.
( I have eclectic taste, my other favorite no one knew was Todd Rundgren)

Home Free and Souvenirs

I never did meet many people who actually knew who Dan Fogelberg was by name.
In the years that followed, people knew his wonderful song that is on all the holiday play lists;
Same Old Lang Syne and then the lovely tribute he wrote about his father, Leader of the Band“.
When I read online Sunday night he had died at the age of 56 of prostate cancer,
a great sadness came over me.
I asked a few people I saw the next day if they knew who he was, and same as always,
no one knew his name and I felt alone in my sadness.
I went to his website and there I was able to read and catch up since I hadn’t kept track of his music once
he veered into more countrified type of work and sound.
Dan Fogelberg younger
I read about his life and about what had happened with his cancer.
He was detected too late to save his life, and he tried to get the message of early testing out in his remaining years.
I enjoyed listening to music clips and looking at recent photos of him with his wife in a happy second marriage.
I always like to see that. It gives me hope for a second chance to get it right.
I dug out my old CD’s and listened to all the beautiful music that I have enjoyed over many years.
I was flooded with memories from different time periods in my life.
My college-age daughter started asking me questions about those times.
This led to me digging out some old love letters from past boyfriends
and one of my diaries from when I was 13.
She read it with great glee, laughing at some of my lingo, such as “far out” and
” bugging ” to name a few.
We both laughed at the dramatic statements I had penned about a
break-up and how I survived it.
Then one of life little magical moments happened.
I checked my email and there waiting for me was an email from an old boyfriend.
We had grown up together and I have many wonderful memories of those times.
Our families still know each other and we all have seen each other at various events
occasionally over the last few decades…
It was short but sweet.
Linda,

Sorry about Dan Fogelberg passing on. I remember how much you liked his music.

I was deeply moved and tears sprang to my eyes.
It was so right.
That was all I wanted.
To hear from someone who knew me.
Someone who got it.
Someone whom I had loved once and had loved me.
Someone that had paid attention to what I liked and who I was.
As I savored this gem of thoughtfulness that had unexpectedly come my way,
I thought about Dan Fogelberg and his music.
I thought about all the people like me who were getting out his CD’s and tapes and albums
and playing then and watching their life float by in their minds eye.
Digging out some saved mementos of those times
with the soundtrack of his songs leading
them down forgotten paths and fainter memories.
I love my life today.
The heartache and struggles, the good times and the bad all have brought me to where I am today.
Much to my amazement, as I listened to Dan and meandered back down memory lane,
I realized I wouldn’t change a thing.
It is a message that sounds like a song Dan Fogelberg would have written and sung.

Thanks Dan, I will miss you but your music will forever move me and
brighten my life.

Networking and Referrals is the way to go!

In my other life, I was a recruiter.
The lifeblood of the business was networking and referrals and building relationships.
Some years we had to work harder finding people, ( lots of jobs, not enough qualified people) other years we had to
really woo and build our relationships with the companies hiring.

I have found this holds true for whatever you are doing.
Today I attended a lunch as a “stand in” for a member of BNI,Coastside Chapter or (Business Networking International), at the Pacifica, Ca. location at Sharp Park Golf Course Restaurant.

The meeting runs from 11:30-1:00 on a Thursday every week.
The food was yummy and the pace was fast and never dull!
I did not know a soul, but I quickly was made to feel at home by the warm and friendly people all around me.
Sitting next to me was Bob Geleta, a Computer Software Consultant, who kindly guided me through all the procedures,
who also appeared to be one of the board members.
I was amazed at much was accomplished while eating our lunch at the same time.
This group knows how to network.
Everyone gets 30 seconds to tell what they do, and then there are two 10 minute speakers, ( members) who talk about
their business and what they do.
The first speaker up was Gary Van Giersbergen, talking about his company with Farmers Insurance.
He did a great job and I think gave us some good information, with a few things that I wasn’t aware of, like once you hit the age of 55 you can take a special course and lower your rate a bit.
He had a glowing reference in the room, from another member, who said he drove 3 hours to check out a home she needed insured. Now that is what I call customer service!
Then came Susan Bishop, owner of “Mind over Matter“, she is a certified clinical hypnotherapist, and RN.
Susan shared some of her many success stories ranging from helping people quit smoking to conquering their insomnia to
helping them drastically reduce and lower chronic pain.
She had several clients and successes in the room!
Next came the referral part of the meeting, and this where people actually pass out referral papers, and do some fast and serious networking and referrals.
People say what successes and actual money has been from made from a referral and each chapter keeps track of what kind of money is flowing through their members.
I was just a guest and I have 3 potential clients who requested I give them a call to discuss setting up a website for them.
I am very glad I attended this meeting, and I am going to check out some chapters a bit closer to my home.
(this location is 4 freeways and an hour away for me).
I am limited in my choices closer to home, since many of my local chapters already have a website designer.
Each group takes only one of each profession.
I may just have to bite the bullet and drive that long drive.
Thank you to all of you at the Coastside BNI chapter for your warm and enthusiastic welcome.
I can certainly see why my friend Mary Knippel, who runs openuptoyourcreativity.com, (and if you are looking for a great copywriter, she is your gal) thought I would enjoy the group.
She was right!
I highly recommend if you have a business, you check out your local chapter of BNI. (click for their main website to find a chapter near you)

Futurama Returns! Nov 27, 2008

I, like many others discovered Futurama well after it was canceled back in 2003.
Then Cartoon Network started airing it, and I started watching and loving it!
People clamored for more Futurama, and we all wondered how we missed it the
first time around. Well for once our cries were heard!
The creators ( Simpsons- Matt Groenig and David X Cohen) and the entire cast agreed to come back and do some more episodes.
